About the role
The Project Officer will lead the archaeological direction and site management of larger and more complex fieldwork sites, ensuring performance targets are met and the quality of archaeological recording is maintained.
Key responsibilities
- Lead archaeological direction and site management for large, complex fieldwork projects.
- Manage delivery of fieldwork to time, budget, quality and health & safety standards.
- Line‑manage and develop staff, providing performance reviews, training and coaching.
- Ensure high‑quality archaeological recording, compile archives and author fieldwork reports.
- Monitor project progress and report to senior managers, liaising with clients, local authorities and contractors.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of British archaeology across all periods.
- Proven experience supervising large fieldwork projects, including excavations and complex evaluations.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate fieldwork reports and stratigraphic accounts.
- Membership of CIfA at PCIfA level (or commitment to join) is desirable.

- Starting salary £37,021‑£39,718 per year, above the CIfA minimum.
