PRU Secondary School Teaching Assistant – Wandsworth

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate PRU Secondary School Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit in Wandsworth. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to help secondary‑aged students overcome behavioural and emotional challenges and achieve their academic potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailored classroom support to students with behavioural and emotional needs.
• Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies and monitoring progress.
• Create a calm, positive, and structured learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, behaviour mentors, and external agencies.
• Support students both inside and outside the classroom to build confidence and engagement.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a teaching assistant, behaviour mentor, youth worker or in an alternative provision setting.
• Experience supporting secondary‑aged students with behavioural, emotional or additional learning needs.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education.

Required skills

• Confident classroom management.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Basic understanding of behaviour support techniques.
