Publishing Assistant – Hybrid, London

About the role

Our team of seven publishers manages a portfolio of over 50 English‑language scientific journals in genetics, biophysics, bioengineering and biotechnology. The Publishing Assistant provides vital support to the internal publishing team, handling non‑strategic matters and building strong relationships with external editors and internal departments.

Key responsibilities

• Handle non‑strategic matters to maintain scholarly journals, including preparing new agreements, updating internal systems, requesting payments and maintaining journal records.
• Prepare materials for team reports, conferences and board meetings, assisting with PowerPoint presentations.
• Request annual journal reports and monitor schedules.
• Manage general enquiries from internal Springer staff and external partners, especially editors and authors.
• Develop strong working relationships across departments to coordinate production, editorial office, marketing, conferences and internal deadlines.
• Respond to routine enquiries from customer services.
• Work with internal databases and software to track projects across the journal portfolio.

Required profile

• Ability to work autonomously and responsibly.
• Very strong computer skills, particularly in MS 365 applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
• Interest and ability to learn company‑specific systems and workflows.
• Laser‑focused attention to detail with strong organisational and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Flexibility and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
