Purchase Ledger Clerk – Finance Team

About the role

We are looking for an organised and detail‑oriented Purchase Ledger Clerk to join our finance team in Haydock. You will manage the day‑to‑day purchase ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and payments are made on time.

Key responsibilities

• Process high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Match, batch and code invoices.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage supplier queries and maintain positive relationships.
• Prepare payment runs and process BACS payments.
• Ensure invoices are authorised in line with company procedures.
• Maintain accurate purchase ledger records.
• Assist with month‑end procedures and reconciliations.
• Support the wider finance team with ad‑hoc duties.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant role.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
• Confident communicator with ability to build strong supplier relationships.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Sage, Xero, SAP, Oracle or similar accounting systems (advantageous).
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
• Commutable to Wigan.
