Purchase Ledger Manager – Finance Leadership Role

About the role

The Purchase Ledger Manager will lead the purchase‑to‑pay function for a growing business in Milton Keynes. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and working closely with the CFO, you will ensure the accounts payable operation runs efficiently while delivering high‑quality service to internal teams and external suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and motivate the Purchase Ledger team to achieve high performance.
• Oversee accurate and timely processing, approval and payment of supplier invoices.
• Manage the end‑to‑end accounts payable function, maintaining robust financial controls and policy compliance.
• Act as primary contact for key suppliers, building strong relationships and resolving escalated queries.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, controls and system efficiencies.
• Conduct regular audits of banking access and payment controls, ensuring governance adherence.
• Perform and review bank reconciliations, investigating any discrepancies.
• Collaborate with operational teams to identify and resolve process issues.
• Support month‑end and year‑end reporting, providing accurate accounts payable analysis.
• Partner with the Group Financial Controller and CFO on wider finance projects and strategic initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable team in a busy finance environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounts payable processes and financial controls.
• Solid accounting background with understanding of reconciliations and month‑end procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop team members.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
