Purchase Ledger Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Purchase Ledger Manager to lead our accounts payable function in Milton Keynes. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and working closely with the CFO, you will own the purchase‑to‑pay process, drive improvements and ensure excellent service for internal teams and external suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and motivate the Purchase Ledger team to achieve high performance.
• Oversee accurate, timely processing, approval and payment of supplier invoices.
• Manage end‑to‑end accounts payable, maintaining robust financial controls and policy compliance.
• Act as primary contact for key suppliers, building strong relationships.
• Resolve escalated supplier queries and payment issues efficiently.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives for processes, controls and system efficiencies.
• Conduct regular audits of banking access and payment controls.
• Perform and review bank reconciliations, investigating discrepancies.
• Collaborate with operational teams to pre‑empt process issues.
• Support month‑end and year‑end reporting with accurate AP analysis.
• Partner with the Group Financial Controller and CFO on finance projects and strategic initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable team in a busy finance environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of AP processes and financial controls.
• Solid accounting background with expertise in reconciliations and month‑end procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop team members.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills, able to juggle multiple priorities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a continuous‑improvement orientation.
