Purchase & Sales Ledger Clerk (Temp to Permanent)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Purchase & Sales Ledger Clerk to join a growing manufacturing business in Salford. The role starts on a temporary basis with the aim of becoming permanent, reporting to the Finance Manager and handling both purchase and sales ledger functions.

Key responsibilities

• Process and code high volumes of purchase invoices and credit notes, matching them to purchase orders and delivery notes.
• Reconcile supplier statements, resolve queries and run weekly supplier payments.
• Manage employee expenses, company credit cards and petty‑cash reconciliations.
• Monitor customer accounts, maintain the aged debt ledger and carry out proactive credit‑control activities.
• Allocate incoming payments, investigate invoice queries and issue customer statements.
• Support month‑end close by reconciling ledger accounts and assisting with accruals.
• Provide ad‑hoc accounting and administrative support to the wider finance team.

Required profile

• Previous experience in purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control or a similar transactional finance role.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Good communication skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• AAT Level 2 (or higher) is advantageous.
• Experience within manufacturing, FMCG or high‑volume environments is desirable.
