Purchasing Manager – Advanced Composites Manufacturer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead the procurement function for a fast‑growing advanced composites manufacturer. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will shape purchasing strategy, manage supplier relationships and ensure a reliable supply chain as the business moves from prototype to high‑volume production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimise cost, quality and delivery.
• Source, evaluate and negotiate with UK and international suppliers.
• Manage supplier contracts, pricing agreements and service levels.
• Ensure continuity of supply for product development and production.
• Monitor inventory levels and purchasing quantities.
• Drive improvements across purchasing and logistics processes.
• Analyse market trends, supplier performance and supply‑chain risks.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
• Review and approve purchase orders and procurement requests.
• Collaborate with internal teams to forecast purchasing requirements.
• Produce procurement reports and KPI analysis.
• Lead, mentor and develop the purchasing team.

Required profile

• 5+ years’ experience in purchasing, procurement or supply‑chain roles.
• Background in manufacturing, engineering or a technical environment.
• Strong negotiation and supplier‑management capabilities.
• Experience managing inventory and material planning.
• Knowledge of procurement best practices and supply‑chain processes.
• Proven leadership or management experience.
• CIPS or related professional qualification (advantageous).
