Purchasing Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement function for a leading supplier of electrical and mechanical workshop equipment. Reporting directly to the Directors, you will oversee the sourcing of finished goods, primarily from China and the Far East, and manage product selection for both wholesale and retail channels.

Key responsibilities

• Select and approve all new products for wholesale and retail trade.
• Sign off purchase orders, pricing and ensure full stock availability.
• Identify product ranges that enhance the company’s offering.
• Collaborate with buying, testing and marketing teams to meet product launch timelines.
• Schedule product testing and evaluation with the in‑house engineering team.
• Review quality control, warranty and new product evaluation reports to guide decisions.
• Decide on product deletions and manage promotional product selections.
• Oversee the flow of new products from import through engineering to private‑label development.
• Set trade and retail prices based on margin requirements.
• Continuously monitor the retail market to keep products competitive.
• Select inbound shipping agencies and manage logistics.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of procurement and management experience at senior level.
• Proven track record of leading buying teams and direct imports from the Far East.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a can‑do attitude.
• Strong financial acumen to influence purchasing decisions.
• Excellent communication, presentation and decision‑making skills.
• Deep knowledge of key market commodities, suppliers and processes.
