Qualified Emergency Practitioner (ENP/ECP)

About the role

The Qualified Emergency Practitioner (ENP/ECP) works autonomously within the Minor Injuries Unit to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care for patients with minor injuries and illnesses. The role combines clinical expertise with operational leadership to ensure high‑quality service aligned with Trust policies and national standards.

Key responsibilities

• Examine, assess, investigate, diagnose and treat patients presenting with a range of minor injuries and illnesses according to departmental protocols.
• Provide brief, low‑intensity interventions (see‑and‑treat) and make appropriate discharge or referral decisions.
• Lead operational activities to maintain service standards, patient flow and clinical governance.
• Document patient encounters accurately and promptly in both written and electronic systems.
• Adhere to Information Governance policies and address any data deficits appropriately.

Required profile

• Qualified autonomous practitioner capable of independent decision‑making.
• Familiarity with Emergency Practitioner protocols and minor injury pathways.
• Ability to manage new and follow‑up patients, including communication with families or carers.
• Commitment to delivering care that reflects the Trust’s values of compassion, openness and excellence.
