About the role
Join the Government Legal Department as a qualified lawyer (Grade 7) working across ministries in Greater Manchester. You will provide high‑profile legal advice to Ministers and senior officials on a wide range of issues, from legislation drafting to litigation and commercial matters.
Key responsibilities
- Advise Ministers and departmental officials on legal matters and policy proposals.
- Prepare and review legislation, regulations and policy documents.
- Handle litigation and dispute resolution on behalf of government departments.
- Provide commercial, employment and EU law guidance to internal clients.
- Manage a caseload of legal queries and ensure timely, risk‑based advice.
Required profile
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively about complex legal issues.
- Strong analytical judgement and persuasive communication skills.
- Open‑minded, impartial and able to work collaboratively under pressure.
Required skills
- Legal research and analysis.
- Drafting of legislation, regulations and policy advice.
- Litigation and advisory experience across public‑sector law.
