Qualified Social Worker – Assessment

About the role

Our client, Surrey County Council, is seeking a qualified social worker to join its Assessment team. The role involves managing a diverse caseload of individuals, children, families and carers, delivering high‑quality assessments and safeguarding support.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload, providing support, guidance and planning using a full range of options.
• Conduct proportionate assessments, ensuring maximum participation and accurate risk judgement.
• Provide up‑to‑date advice in line with national legislation and signpost to other services when required.
• Identify and act on safeguarding concerns, undertaking planning where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate case records on the council’s database and comply with data‑protection policies.
• Share professional knowledge with the team and, where needed, deliver reflective supervision to non‑qualified staff.
• Uphold the council’s values, equality and diversity commitments, and health & safety standards.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker registration and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Strong professional judgement, risk assessment and decision‑making abilities.
• Experience working with individuals, families and children in a public‑sector setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding legislation and ability to recognise and act on concerns.
• Commitment to accurate record‑keeping and data protection compliance.
