Quality Technician

About the role
The Quality Technician will work on a continental 3‑on‑3‑off rotating days and nights pattern at a leading fibre‑to‑the‑X manufacturer in the Scottish Borders. Reporting to the UK Quality Manager, you will ensure internal, customer and regulatory quality standards are met while driving continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor the production lifecycle and perform regular testing/audits to ensure compliance.
- Support business areas to maintain continuity of supply.
- Collaborate with departments to develop corrective actions, solutions, controls and improvements.
- Support the NCR process and drive continuous improvement.
- Inspect and test materials, processes and products against specifications.
- Identify issues, segregate non‑conforming product and determine disposition.
- Perform internal audits and assist with external and supplier audits to ISO 9001.
- Research, analyse and report findings within a manufacturing environment.
- Carry out calibration duties and maintain the company’s calibration schedule.
- Ensure safe, high‑standard packaging of all customer products.
- Work with internal teams to reduce scrap and re‑works, increase tonnage and improve customer satisfaction.
Required profile
- Education to HNC/HND level or equivalent time‑served experience in engineering, manufacturing, science or a technical discipline.
- Experience in a medium to high‑volume production environment.
- Solid understanding of ISO 9001 standards.
- Proven track record in problem solving, root‑cause analysis and 7‑step corrective‑action plans.
- Experience implementing proactive change and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Methodical mindset with strong adherence to processes.
- Open to candidates with transferable skills from NHS, armed forces, lab testing or scientific backgrounds.

- Base salary £28,195 per annum.
- 26% shift allowance for continental 3‑on‑3‑off rotating days/nights.
- Site‑based role in the beautiful Scottish Borders, ~1 hour south of Edinburgh.
