Quantitative Analyst – Physical Energy Markets

About the role
This permanent position is based in central London and focuses on building quantitative models for physical energy trading, primarily power and gas. The analyst will work closely with traders to translate market insights into robust analytical tools.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and enhance quantitative models supporting physical energy product trading.
- Build tools to optimise trading strategies, asset‑backed arbitrage and cross‑border opportunities.
- Provide quantitative insights on exposures, hedging and physical optionality to traders.
- Improve and scale existing risk infrastructure for storage, transportation and capacity complexities.
- Ensure model robustness in live market conditions and document methodologies for cross‑functional teams.
Required profile
- Proven experience in physical energy markets (power, gas, LNG, oil, coal or renewables).
- Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, MS/PhD level).
- Experience developing quantitative models for trading and risk management.
- Front‑office exposure working directly with physical traders.
- Knowledge of derivatives pricing and hedging in the context of physical positions.
