Recovery Worker – HMP Wormwood Scrubs (London)

About the role

We are seeking a Recovery Worker to join our team at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in London. The role is full‑time (35 hours per week) and involves supporting adults with drug and alcohol misuse within a secure, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of service users, delivering 1:1 interventions and group sessions.
• Complete assessments, risk management plans and personalised care plans.
• Provide drug and alcohol interventions using harm‑reduction and abstinence‑based approaches.
• Offer advice, motivation and support to help individuals achieve recovery goals.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams and partner agencies such as housing, employment, probation and community services.
• Support service users to access additional services and build positive pathways beyond treatment.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to service outcomes and performance targets.

Required profile

• Experience supporting people with substance misuse, health or complex needs.
• Ability to build effective, trusting relationships with service users.
• Confidence delivering structured interventions and facilitating group work.
• Understanding of safeguarding, risk management and multi‑agency working.
• Organised, proactive and committed to improving people’s lives.

Required skills

• Knowledge of drug and alcohol harm‑reduction and abstinence approaches.
• Experience with risk assessment and care planning.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
