Recycling Assistant

About the role

The Recycling Assistant supports the safe and efficient operation of the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Plymouth. You will interact directly with the public, guiding them on proper waste segregation and ensuring a clean, compliant site.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear guidance to visitors on how to separate and dispose of household waste.
• Direct traffic within the centre to maintain safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
• Maintain a tidy, hazard‑free working environment, including routine cleaning and waste handling.
• Carry out manual handling tasks safely, including the handling of hazardous materials when required.
• Process customer payments for chargeable waste streams accurately and professionally.
• Report any hazards, unsafe practices, or incidents to the site manager promptly.
• Support the centre’s environmental compliance and customer‑service standards.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Team‑oriented attitude with good problem‑solving abilities.
• Reliability, professionalism and a proactive approach to site operations.

Required skills
