Regional Grounds Maintenance Operative

About the role
We are seeking a diligent Regional Grounds Maintenance Operative to support United Utilities’ wastewater treatment and network sites in the North West. The role is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract (potentially permanent) working outdoors, operating a range of maintenance equipment and ensuring sites meet safety, performance and environmental standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out vegetation control, soft landscaping and general site upkeep.
- Perform recovery works such as filter‑bed vegetation removal and pontoon activities.
- Operate and inspect equipment including mowers, strimmers, blowers, tractors, robotic kits and trailers.
- Record completed tasks accurately in company systems.
- Undertake minor remedial repairs (e.g., flags, fencing) within competence.
- Support onboarding and training of new starters.
- Follow Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and company policies.
- Identify site improvement opportunities and assist with winter work planning.
- Collaborate with site staff and stakeholders to achieve high‑quality outcomes.
- Apply pesticides safely, including invasive weed management.
- Assist the Team Leader in planning and delivering work to time, quality and budget standards.
Required profile
- Practical experience in grounds maintenance, vegetation management or soft landscaping.
- Experience using grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, ride‑on machinery, tractors and robotic kits.
- Good time‑management skills and ability to work to schedules.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
- Full driving licence for travel between sites.

What we offer
- £15.09 per hour.
- 37‑hour work week.
