Registered Nurse/Paramedic – Forensic Custody (Bank) – Carlisle

About the role

Mountain Healthcare is recruiting Registered Nurses and Paramedics to work within police custody suites in Carlisle. The position offers full accredited training in forensic custody healthcare, so no prior experience in this setting is required. You will provide autonomous, fast‑paced clinical care to detainees, supporting their welfare and the wider criminal‑justice process.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct clinical assessments to determine fitness for detention, interview, charge and release.
• Respond to acute medical episodes and provide immediate healthcare advice.
• Support safeguarding decisions and collaborate with police, custody teams and partner agencies.
• Collect and preserve forensic samples, document injuries and maintain accurate clinical and evidential records.
• Deliver care to detainees with physical, mental health, substance‑misuse or vulnerability‑related needs.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RGN) or Paramedic qualification.
• Minimum three years’ experience in an acute clinical setting.
• Ability to work autonomously and make rapid clinical decisions.
• Willingness to undertake accredited forensic custody training.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and decision‑making in acute care.
• Knowledge of mental health, substance misuse and vulnerability considerations.
• Forensic evidence collection and legal‑standard record keeping.
