Relief Chef – Flexible Temporary Positions

About the role

We are seeking experienced chefs and cooks to provide relief cover across a range of settings in Wigan. The role is flexible, allowing you to choose shifts that suit your personal schedule while stepping in for short‑term or long‑term staff absences.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals in schools, academies, staff canteens, healthcare facilities and care homes.
• Cover staff shortages on a day‑to‑day basis, including days, evenings and occasional weekends.
• Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in each environment.
• Adapt menus to suit the specific requirements of each setting.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a chef or cook in a commercial kitchen.
• Valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) for work with vulnerable groups.
• Flexibility to work a mix of shifts and locations.
• Own transport is advantageous, though most sites are reachable by public transport.

Required skills

• Food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
