Relief HGV Driver – Class 2 Hiab

About the role

We are looking for a reliable Relief HGV Driver (Class 2 Hiab) to join our New Malden team. The role involves delivering materials to trade and retail customers, operating a Class 2 vehicle equipped with a Hiab crane, and providing flexible cover for peak periods or staff absences.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a Class 2 (C) HGV fitted with a HIAB crane to load, transport and unload goods to customer sites.
• Secure loads using straps, tarpaulins and other restraints to prevent damage.
• Use the onboard HIAB crane safely and efficiently following manufacturer guidance.
• Carry out daily vehicle and HIAB checks, report defects and keep documentation up to date.
• Plan routes to meet delivery schedules and communicate any delays.
• Provide excellent customer service on site, ensuring safe unloading and placement of goods.
• Assist with loading at the branch, including manual handling and use of lifting aids.
• Complete delivery paperwork and electronic proof of delivery accurately.
• Adhere to health and safety policies, use appropriate PPE and report incidents.
• Work flexibly to cover the New Malden branch and neighbouring branches as required.

Required profile

• Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) driving licence with HIAB endorsement and CPC completed.
• Proven experience operating Class 2 HGVs with a HIAB crane.
• Customer‑focused with strong communication skills.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work flexible hours, including early starts and occasional Saturdays.
• Physically fit for manual handling and outdoor work in variable weather.
• Basic IT literacy to use handheld devices and electronic proof‑of‑delivery systems.
• Commitment to follow company safety procedures and work as part of a team.
