Relief Support Worker – Young People (Bank)

About the role

GCH is seeking Bank Relief Support Workers to join a newly acquired homeless property for young people aged 18‑25. You will work flexible hours across a rota that covers 8 am‑10 pm, seven days a week, providing vital one‑to‑one and group support to help residents move towards independent living.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one key‑work sessions and group activities tailored to each young person’s needs.
• Support residents in accessing education, training, volunteering and employment opportunities.
• Encourage personal responsibility, community engagement and the development of strong support networks.
• Collect feedback and involve young people in shaping the services they receive.
• Participate in a paid on‑call night rota shared across the service.

Required profile

• GCSE/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience in housing, support work or youth services.
• Proven ability to manage a caseload of young people with complex needs.
• Experience handling difficult client situations with a customer‑focused approach.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Ability to provide accurate advice on a wide range of topics.

Required skills

• Proficient use of PCs.
• Operation of mobile phones.
• Use of digital cameras.
• Familiarity with PDAs or similar handheld devices.
