Research Fellow – Migration in African Cities

About the role

The African Cities Research Consortium is seeking a motivated post‑doctoral researcher to investigate migration and mobility across seven African cities. This 12‑month position will be based at the University of Manchester and will involve close collaboration with local partners.

Key responsibilities

• Support local researchers in Accra, Lagos, Kampala, Nairobi, Harare, Maiduguri and Mogadishu with data collection and analysis.
• Conduct additional primary research as needed to strengthen project outcomes.
• Develop comparative analyses, identify common lessons and formulate policy recommendations.
• Produce working papers, policy briefs, blog posts, academic articles and conference presentations.
• Participate in workshops, webinars and other knowledge‑exchange activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Migration Studies, Urban Studies, Geography, Development Studies or a related discipline.
• Experience researching urban Africa and working with African knowledge partners.
• Proven ability to conduct qualitative research and produce high‑quality written outputs.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
