Research Nurse – Band 7 – Dementia Trials Network

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Research Nurse to join the Alzheimer’s Society UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN) at Western General Hospital. You will work within NHS Lothian to deliver early‑phase dementia clinical trials and help shape a new research programme that could transform care for people living with dementia.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and develop the UK Dementia Trials Network within NHS Lothian.
• Collaborate with principal investigators, senior nursing, medical, research and operational colleagues, and external partners to design and deliver early‑phase dementia studies.
• Lead the delivery of high‑quality research, ensuring participant safety, excellent care and compliance with governance and regulatory standards.
• Provide guidance, support and mentorship to the wider research team, promoting best practice across the service.
• Increase patient access to research opportunities and emerging treatments.

Required profile

• Substantial post‑registration clinical experience as a research nurse.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and a strong understanding of NHS clinical research processes.
• Experience in dementia research and/or early‑phase clinical trials is highly desirable.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a complex, evolving research environment.
