Research Proposal Officer

About the role

The Research Proposal Officer will join the pre‑award team of a large faculty at a leading higher‑education institution. You will support the end‑to‑end delivery of grant‑funded research, working closely with Principal Investigators, finance colleagues and external funders.

Key responsibilities

• Set up research awards in Oracle‑based systems and ensure accurate award administration.
• Manage a portfolio of awards, coordinating mobilisation and hand‑over to the post‑award team.
• Provide advice and support throughout the grant submission process, including costing and pricing.
• Review funder terms, conduct due‑diligence checks on partners and ensure compliance with governance requirements.
• Maintain auditable records, produce management information and workload reports.
• Assist with training and onboarding of new pre‑award team members.

Required profile

• Degree‑level education or equivalent relevant experience.
• Significant experience in research grants administration, preferably within higher education.
• Strong knowledge of the research grants lifecycle and UK funding mechanisms.
• High accuracy, attention to detail and problem‑solving capability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel.
• Experience using Oracle‑based award management systems.
