Resident Doctor – General Surgery (Registrar Level)

About the role

Cromwell Hospital is seeking an experienced Registrar‑level Resident Doctor (ST3+) in General Surgery to join its private surgical team. You will provide high‑quality, consultant‑led care for a broad range of general surgical patients in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily ward rounds and manage inpatient care for general surgical patients.
• Assess and treat post‑operative patients, recognising and managing complications.
• Provide out‑of‑hours and on‑call cover for general surgery as required.
• Perform and supervise routine ward‑based procedures such as wound care, drain and line insertion.
• Liaise with consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, intensive care and allied health professionals regarding patient progress.
• Coordinate investigations, imaging and referrals, and ensure accurate clinical documentation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary handovers and uphold patient safety and governance standards.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification with full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
• ST3 level or above (or equivalent international experience) with at least 3–4 years of postgraduate surgical experience.
• MRCS examination or equivalent postgraduate surgical qualification.
• ALS certification (or equivalent) and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Demonstrated competence in general surgery inpatient and post‑operative care.
