Resident Service Engineer – On‑site Maintenance

About the role

We are looking for a Resident Service Engineer to join a small on‑site engineering team at a major manufacturing facility in Darlington. The role is hands‑on, focusing on the monitoring, maintenance, calibration and fault diagnosis of specialist test and measurement equipment to ensure maximum uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line fault finding and diagnosis on specialist test and measurement equipment.
• Carry out routine electrical servicing, maintenance and calibration activities.
• Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify potential issues.
• Complete accurate maintenance, calibration and service documentation.
• Issue calibration certificates and related reports.
• Plan and manage scheduled maintenance and calibration programmes.
• Maintain detailed service records and technical reports.
• Escalate technical issues through internal support systems when required.
• Build effective relationships with customer personnel and engineering colleagues.
• Ensure all work complies with quality, safety and company procedures.

Required profile

• HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related discipline, or comparable industry experience.
• Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic experience.
• Previous experience in maintenance, service, calibration or test engineering environments.
• Good understanding of electrical systems and equipment.
• PLC knowledge is advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Self‑motivated, reliable and able to work independently.
