Residential Support Worker

About the role

We are looking for a caring and resilient Residential Support Worker to join our team in Colchester. In this role you will help children and young people living in residential and specialist settings to achieve a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support young people with daily routines, personal care and practical tasks.
• Provide emotional support and encourage independence, confidence and life‑skills development.
• Follow individual care and support plans, record activity and report concerns promptly.
• Assist children with SEND, SEMH and challenging behaviours, promoting positive outcomes.
• Facilitate access to education, community activities and local services.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, external professionals and safeguarding teams.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people in residential care, SEND, youth work or a related setting.
• Patient, compassionate and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
• Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
