Revenues Officer – 18‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

This 18‑month fixed‑term position offers the chance to join Southwark Council’s Performance & Quality Team, handling complaints and enquiries related to Council Tax and Business Rates. You will work closely with the Customer Resolution Team and senior stakeholders to ensure high‑quality service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate, resolve and respond to stage‑1 complaints under the Council’s corporate complaints procedure.
• Support the Customer Resolution Team with stage‑2 and Local Government Ombudsman complaints.
• Prepare clear reports for Members, Councillors and senior management on individual cases.
• Compile responses to Freedom of Information, Subject Access and GDPR requests.
• Assist with quality monitoring of transactions and correspondence within the Revenues Service.
• Identify service improvements and recommend procedural enhancements where appropriate.

Required profile

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Comprehensive knowledge of at least one revenue service area (e.g., Council Tax or Business Rates).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently while meeting targets.
• In‑depth understanding of revenues legislation and related regulations.
• GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
