Risk & Controls Manager Financial Crime

About the role

The Risk & Controls Manager for Financial Crime will lead a Line 1 risk and controls team within Santander Consumer Finance UK. Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime & Controls, you will design, implement and monitor quality controls that protect customers and the business from financial crime, fraud and conduct risks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and execute risk‑based quality controls across customer onboarding, due‑diligence and third‑party journeys.
• Manage name‑screening, customer risk assessment, transaction monitoring, enhanced due‑diligence and fraud controls such as CIFAS/Hunter and ABC (gifts & hospitality).
• Conduct gap analysis, thematic reviews and calibration of financial‑crime models (transaction monitoring, screening, risk assessment).
• Produce and report management information that evidences control outcomes, trends and issue resolution.
• Work closely with stakeholders to embed improvements, manage dispensations, waivers and breaches, and ensure compliance with policy updates.
• Oversee team workload, productivity and service‑level agreements, providing coaching and training as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a risk or controls function within a financial‑services environment.
• Strong understanding of financial‑crime typologies, regulatory expectations and consumer‑duty requirements.
• Ability to lead a team, influence cross‑functional partners and drive continuous improvement.
