Risk Director – Enterprise Risk Management Lead

About the role
The Risk Director will design, own and operate the firm’s enterprise‑wide risk management framework. Reporting to senior management, the role provides independent second‑line oversight of material non‑financial and financial risks linked to electronic money issuance, payment services and foreign‑exchange trading. The position works closely with the Compliance Director and will support the upcoming MiFID licence application.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, defining risk appetite, tolerances and escalation thresholds approved by the Board.
- Provide independent oversight of FX market, liquidity, settlement and counter‑party risks, including stress‑testing and scenario analysis.
- Oversee prudential and financial resilience risks for an Electronic Money Institution, coordinating with Finance on capital adequacy and wind‑down planning.
- Manage operational risk, including third‑party, ICT, cyber‑resilience, fraud and business continuity risks.
- Assess conduct and reputational risks arising from products, pricing and customer journeys, supporting a strong risk culture aligned with FCA principles.
- Deliver clear risk reporting to the Executive Committee, Board and Audit & Risk Committee and act as senior contact for FCA risk‑related matters.
Required profile
- Senior risk‑management experience within an FCA‑regulated firm, preferably an EMI, payments institution or FX provider, with MiFID exposure.
- Deep understanding of FX‑related market, liquidity and counter‑party risks and of both MiFID and MiFID‑exempt products.
- Proven ability to operate independently from compliance functions within a three‑lines‑of‑defence model.
- Strong communication skills with boards, senior management and regulators on risk matters.
