Roads Officer – Temporary (2-3 days/week)

About the role

A well‑established public sector organisation is seeking a Roads Officer to join its Roads Services team on a long‑term temporary basis, working 2‑3 days a week. The role supports the delivery and development of road infrastructure services, ensuring projects and maintenance activities are carried out efficiently, safely and in line with statutory requirements. Flexible working arrangements, including flexi‑time, are offered.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery and development of roads and infrastructure services.
• Assist in the management and delivery of road maintenance and improvement works.
• Monitor projects and programmes to ensure compliance with budget, quality and performance targets.
• Provide technical support and advice on roads‑related matters.
• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with statutory requirements and organisational policies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best‑value service delivery.
• Liaise with internal departments, contractors, stakeholders and members of the public.

Required profile

• HNC in Civil Engineering, SVQ Level 2, or a related qualification (or equivalent experience).
• Demonstrable experience within roads, highways or civil engineering environments.
• Knowledge of road maintenance, utilities, construction or infrastructure delivery.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a public‑sector environment.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
