Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician – Training Provided

About the role

Join Shorterm Group in partnership with Siemens Mobility as a Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician. You will receive a six‑month training programme on the Class 700 electric train fleet and then progress to a fully qualified maintenance role.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and corrective maintenance on passenger rolling stock.
• Perform routine inspections, servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults across the train.
• Maintain underframe equipment, traction motors, power systems, pantographs, air‑conditioning, toilet systems and other components.
• Work 5‑day on / 5‑day off rotating 12‑hour day and night shifts.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 2 (or Level 3 for higher pay rate) or equivalent technical qualification.
• Background in light‑vehicle mechanics, heavy‑vehicle or plant maintenance, aviation engineering, armed‑forces technical trades, or similar.
• Willingness to work both day and night shifts, 40‑48 hours per week with overtime.

What we offer

• PAYE rates from £27.53 to £29.98 per hour during the first 12 weeks, rising after training.
• Structured training leading to T2B rate for NVQ Level 3 holders.
• Contract of minimum 6 months, expected 24‑36 months with potential permanent position.
• Start date 14 September 2026 and regular overtime opportunities.
