Rolling Stock Technician

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician (mechanical/electrical) to join our Leeds Maintenance Facility. You will be part of a 9‑person team responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance and repair of a busy freight locomotive fleet, working a 4‑on‑4‑off shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance, fault finding and repair of locomotives in line with approved maintenance plans.
• Ensure all work complies with Railway Group Standards, statutory codes of practice and company health‑and‑safety policies.
• Complete all required paperwork, material issue records and maintenance history documentation accurately and on time.
• Use and maintain workshop tools, instrumentation and test equipment safely.
• Participate in training, competency assessments and technical briefings as required.
• Assist Team Leaders with locomotive overhauls, major repairs and commissioning of plant and equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of workshop areas, mess rooms and facilities.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a mechanical/electrical maintenance technician in a railway or heavy‑industry environment.
• Ability to work the 4‑on‑4‑off shift pattern (7 am‑7 pm, 39 hour week).
• Commitment to health and safety standards and safe use of tools and equipment.
• Willingness to undertake additional duties to support the team when needed.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance of locomotives.
• Electrical maintenance and fault diagnosis of rolling stock.
• Use of workshop tools and diagnostic instrumentation.
• Knowledge of Railway Group Standards and Codes of Practice.
