Roster Clerk – Driver Scheduling in Swindon

About the role
The Roster Clerk will sit at the heart of a new regional Service Delivery Centre, ensuring that rail freight drivers are allocated to the right services at the right time. You will coordinate driver resources, maintain accurate rosters and respond quickly to operational changes, helping to keep services safe, efficient and reliable.
Key responsibilities
- Assign work to available drivers in line with operational and competency requirements.
- Create, maintain and update driver rosters, reflecting all staffing needs.
- Ensure compliance with working‑time regulations, rest periods and company policies.
- Record and manage sickness, annual leave and other absences, adjusting resources as required.
- Respond to planned and unplanned operational changes, driver availability issues and short‑notice disruptions.
- Work closely with Planning, Control and Depot teams to align driver resources with service commitments.
Required profile
- Highly organised with strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate solutions under pressure.
- Proactive in building relationships with drivers and acting as a trusted point of contact.
