Safety and Fire Lead

About the role

The Safety and Fire Lead will be the primary point of contact for fire safety and general health‑and‑safety across the UK intelligence community. Working within the Safety, Fire and Wellbeing team, you will ensure robust governance, consistent standards and effective assurance for MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain fire safety procedures in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Conduct risk assessments, audits and investigations to identify and mitigate safety hazards.
• Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation.
• Provide expert guidance and training to staff on fire and safety matters.
• Maintain fire protection systems and oversee regular testing and certification.
• Report safety performance to senior management and recommend improvements.
• Travel frequently to all UK intelligence locations to support site‑specific safety needs.

Required profile

• NEBOSH diploma or NVQ Level 6/NCRQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Certified or Chartered status with IOSH or IIRSM.
• Extensive experience in safety and fire risk management within complex environments.
• Background in auditing, assurance or risk assessment roles.
