Safety, Health & Environment Director

About the role

Greencore is seeking a senior leader to head its Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) function across the newly combined group. Based at the Leeds head office, the Director will shape strategy, embed a proactive safety culture and drive environmental performance for a business employing over 28,000 staff.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own the Group SHE strategy, translating it into standards, frameworks and implementation plans.
• Lead a Centre of Excellence of roughly 130 professionals, building capability and behavioural change across the organisation.
• Establish consistent performance, assurance, incident and risk‑management processes that generate insight and continuous improvement.
• Interpret and apply evolving legislation, ensuring risks are understood, mitigated and managed.
• Advise executive leadership on SHE risk related to operations, growth, acquisitions and due diligence.
• Represent Greencore with regulators, industry bodies and external stakeholders, enhancing reputation and influence.
• Oversee the environmental dimension of the SHE agenda and support broader sustainability commitments.
• Collaborate with senior governance stakeholders on regulatory processes, insurance risk, claims management and plc‑level oversight.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in safety, health and environmental management, preferably within large manufacturing or food‑production environments.
• Strong track record of developing and implementing group‑wide SHE strategies and policies.
• Excellent influencing and communication skills with senior executives and external regulators.
• Ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and drive cultural change.
• Deep understanding of UK health and safety legislation, environmental regulations and risk management.
