Safety Systems Engineer

About the role

Our client is a highly innovative engineering organisation delivering complex, safety‑critical projects in a regulated environment. As a Safety Systems Engineer you will be responsible for functional and system safety across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring robust safety processes and compliance throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver system and functional safety for several safety‑critical engineering programmes.
• Develop and maintain Safety Management Plans, safety cases and assurance documentation.
• Lead hazard identification and risk analysis activities such as HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA, and manage hazard logs.
• Ensure traceability of safety requirements through design, verification, validation and evidence generation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support safety reviews, audits and regulatory engagements.

Required profile

• Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in safety engineering within defence or other safety‑critical environments.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as Def Stan, IEC 61508 or MIL‑STD frameworks.
• Experience producing safety cases, hazard analyses and risk assessments.
