School Bursar

About the role

The School Bursar will support the financial and administrative functions of a secondary school in Lancaster, working closely with staff, pupils and external partners. This full‑time, temporary position offers the chance to develop expertise in school finance while contributing to a safe and well‑run learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial transactions and budgeting using the school’s finance system.
• Maintain accurate records in the SIMS (School Information Management System) and other administrative tools.
• Support safeguarding procedures and ensure compliance with relevant policies.
• Develop positive relationships with children, staff, parents and external agencies.
• Travel across the local area to attend meetings and support school activities as required.

Required profile

• Excellent written communication with strong spelling and grammar.
• Previous experience in a school office or similar administrative role.
• Recent experience using school administrative and financial systems.
• Commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
• Hard‑working, flexible, proactive and able to use initiative.
• Ability to build good relationships with children and adults.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding.
• Availability for full‑time or part‑time work and ability to travel locally.
