School Business Manager – Primary School (Liverpool)

About the role

The School Business Manager will support the Headteacher and senior leadership team in a primary school in North Liverpool. This full‑time, temporary position focuses on overseeing financial, HR and operational functions to ensure the school runs efficiently and complies with statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all financial processes, including budgeting, forecasting and expenditure monitoring.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on financial and operational matters.
• Administer HR functions such as recruitment, staff records and payroll support.
• Oversee contracts, procurement and supplier relationships to achieve value for money.
• Ensure compliance with school policies, safeguarding and statutory regulations.
• Manage health and safety procedures across the school site.
• Support premises, facilities and maintenance arrangements.
• Produce reports and maintain accurate records for governors and senior leaders.
• Collaborate with staff, parents, governors and external agencies to support the school’s aims.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a school‑based business or finance role.
• Strong knowledge of school finance, budgeting and financial management.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience of HR administration and operational management.
• Valid Enhanced DBS Certificate for Child Workforce, or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, flexible and solution‑focused approach.
