School Caretaker – Full‑time, Crawley

About the role

We are looking for a proactive School Caretaker to join our team in Crawley. The role involves ensuring the school environment is safe, clean and welcoming for students, staff and visitors, working Monday‑Friday from 7 am to 3 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain safety, tidiness, security and comfort of all school facilities.
• Report defects, hazards and maintenance needs promptly.
• Carry out regular compliance checks and keep written/e‑digital records.
• Perform basic maintenance, housekeeping and use pitch‑maintenance equipment.
• Supervise external contractors and ensure adherence to safeguarding policies.
• Act as keyholder, lock and unlock premises reliably.
• Set up furniture, equipment and rooms for school and third‑party use.
• Liaise with cleaners and other service providers to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Experience in caretaking or facilities management, preferably in a school setting.
• Good understanding of health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with staff, students and contractors.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to identify and report issues.
• Reliability and responsibility for key‑holding duties.

Required skills

• Basic maintenance and housekeeping techniques.
• Use of pitch‑maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of health‑and‑safety compliance.
