School Caretaker – Full‑time, £25k

About the role

We are looking for a proactive School Caretaker to join our team in Crawley. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, tidy and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safety, tidiness, security and comfort of all school facilities.
• Report defects or hazards promptly and keep accurate records of inspections.
• Carry out general maintenance, housekeeping and basic repairs within your skill level.
• Supervise external contractors and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies.
• Perform key‑holding duties, lock and unlock buildings, and set up rooms for school and third‑party use.
• Maintain cleanliness through litter picking, sweeping, bin emptying and basic cleaning.

Required profile

• Experience in caretaking or facilities management, preferably in an educational setting.
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with staff, students and contractors.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to identify and report issues.
• Reliability and responsibility for key‑holding duties.

Required skills

• Basic maintenance and housekeeping techniques.
• Use of pitch maintenance equipment.
