School Caretaker (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated caretaker to maintain a safe, welcoming environment at a vibrant school in Forest Gate, East London. The role is hands‑on and involves a mix of security, maintenance and general support tasks throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Lock up the site and set the alarm each evening
• Carry out weekly fire alarm checks and uphold safety protocols
• Perform general repairs, unblock sinks and toilets, and fix doors and windows
• Undertake painting, decorating, and minor carpentry such as installing shelves and pin boards
• Replace toilet seats and manage other routine fittings
• Conduct daily health‑and‑safety inspections for students and staff
• Oversee contractors to ensure work meets standards
• Provide porterage services, move furniture and deliver parcels
• Pick up litter, sweep leaves, empty bins and restock supplies (soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer)
• Maintain school grounds and perform any additional duties as required

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle a variety of handyperson duties
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations
• Strong organisational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks
• Reliable, punctual and a strong sense of responsibility
• Excellent problem‑solving ability and the capability to work independently
