School Caretaker – Full‑time (Temporary or Permanent)

About the role

Reed Education is partnering with schools in Sussex to recruit a full‑time caretaker. The role runs all year round on a rota basis, supporting the premises team in maintaining a safe and functional learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Locking and unlocking the building as required.
• Mowing, strimming and general upkeep of school lawns and pitches.
• Performing routine building and grounds maintenance.
• Operating and monitoring security systems, including alarms, CCTV and access control.
• Checking perimeter fences and reporting security concerns.
• Recording regular site inspections and maintenance activities.
• Assisting with the movement and setup of furniture and equipment for events and lettings.
• Handling receipt, distribution, collection and dispatch of goods.
• Undertaking emergency cleaning duties when needed.

Required profile

• Prior experience in a similar caretaker or facilities maintenance role.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation.
• Ability to work full‑time on a shift/rota pattern.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Familiarity with building services and security alarm systems.
• Basic competence in operating CCTV and access control equipment.
