School Caretaker (Temporary, 4‑week contract)

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and proactive Caretaker/Facilities Assistant to support the Head of Facilities Management at a school in Garston. The role starts on 6 July 2026 and is initially for four weeks, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a key holder, opening and closing the premises and ensuring site security.
• Respond to out‑of‑hours emergencies as required.
• Supervise and manage external contractors in line with safeguarding protocols.
• Carry out general maintenance, first‑line repairs and minor redecoration.
• Support cleaning teams with ad‑hoc duties such as litter picking.
• Handle deliveries and distribute materials across the academy.
• Perform porterage duties, including moving furniture and setting up for events.
• Operate and monitor building systems (heating, CCTV, security systems).
• Maintain caretaking equipment and conduct routine safety checks.
• Assist with emergency procedures and support site lettings and external events.
• Carry out routine checks on the school minibus and drive when required.
• Assist in stock control and ordering of consumables.

Required profile

• Experience in caretaking, facilities or maintenance roles.
• Strong awareness of health & safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible, reliable and proactive attitude.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
