School Caretaker (Temporary to Permanent)

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and proactive caretaker to join the facilities team of a well‑regarded school in Kew. The role starts on a temporary basis with the potential to become permanent, offering a varied day‑to‑day environment focused on safety, security and the overall presentation of the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular inspections of buildings, grounds, playgrounds, pathways and fire escape routes, keeping records up to date.
• Operate, monitor and maintain heating, lighting, water and ventilation systems.
• Perform minor maintenance, repair and decorating tasks as required.
• Identify and report defects, support fire alarm testing, ensure emergency lighting works and provide first‑aid assistance when needed.
• Assist with security duties, including locking/unlocking doors, acting as key holder and responding to alarm activations.
• Support school events by setting up rooms, moving equipment and carrying out general portering duties.

Required profile

• Successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check (Child Workforce).
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and development.
• Practical maintenance experience with a proactive, flexible approach.
• Strong awareness of health and safety procedures.
