School Catering Manager (Term‑time, Part‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated School Catering Manager to lead the daily operations of our school kitchen in Blackburn. The role is part‑time and runs during term time, with an additional week of coverage when the school is closed. You will be responsible for delivering nutritious meals that meet government nutrition standards while ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook balanced meals that satisfy the dietary needs of pupils.
• Develop and update varied menus in collaboration with pupils and the School Business Manager.
• Manage kitchen staff, overseeing welfare, performance and professional development.
• Negotiate with suppliers, control food stocks and stay within the catering budget.
• Maintain a 5‑star level of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.
• Handle special dietary requirements, clearly labelling allergens.
• Provide catering support for school events and deliver breakfast for all classes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar catering or food‑service role, preferably in an educational setting.
• Strong leadership and staff‑management abilities.
• Good knowledge of health‑ and safety, food‑safety regulations and allergen management.
• Ability to design menus that meet diverse dietary needs.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Commitment to promoting healthy eating and high standards of hygiene.
