School Chef – Flexible Part‑Time (Enhanced DBS)

About the role

We are seeking experienced School Chefs to work across a range of education settings in Grays and Thurrock. The role is part‑time and temporary, ideal for chefs who want flexible hours while delivering high‑quality meals in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present fresh, nutritious meals for students and staff.
• Cater for diverse dietary requirements, allergies and special diets.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene and health & safety regulations.
• Keep the kitchen clean, organised and efficient.
• Monitor stock levels, store food safely and minimise waste.
• Work both independently and as part of a kitchen team.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and uphold professional standards in education settings.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a chef in schools, colleges, universities or other DBS‑regulated environments.
• Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service.
• Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Food Allergen Awareness Certificate.
• Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Reliable, punctual and adaptable to different kitchen settings.
