School Governance and Data Protection Officer

About the role

We are seeking a School Governance and Data Protection Officer to join Northumberland County Council’s School Governance Team. The role supports schools, governors and academy trusts across the county, helping them achieve high standards of governance and GDPR compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist advice on all aspects of school governance and related matters.
• Support schools and educational professionals in resolving complex governance issues.
• Work with governing boards, school leaders and academy trusts to promote effective leadership and high standards.
• Develop and maintain the School Governance and GDPR Service Level Agreements.
• Deliver training, share best practice and challenge organisations to improve.
• Mediate complaints and advise on governor code of conduct matters.
• Advise schools on GDPR compliance and data‑protection requirements.
• Build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to influence strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Strong understanding of school governance, data protection or a related discipline.
• Experience providing professional advice to senior educational stakeholders.
• Background in education, local authority governance or data‑protection is desirable.
