School HR Officer

About the role

Join a supportive education trust as a School HR Officer, providing essential human resources support across multiple schools in the Croydon area. This temporary-to-permanent role offers the chance to develop your HR expertise while making a positive impact on staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line HR advice and guidance to staff and school managers.
• Support recruitment processes, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews and communicating with candidates.
• Process employment checks and ensure compliance with safeguarding requirements.
• Maintain Single Central Records (SCRs) and update HR information systems.
• Produce documentation for starters, leavers and contractual changes.
• Assist payroll functions such as contract variations, absences, overtime, and new starter processing.
• Support formal HR meetings, take notes, conduct audits, produce reports and handle general HR administration.
• Collaborate closely with school leaders and administration teams to keep staff records accurate and compliant.

Required profile

• A‑Level qualification or equivalent.
• Previous experience in HR administration or a busy office environment.
• Strong IT proficiency and experience using HR or management systems.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Professional, confidential and resilient approach to work.
• Proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent) desirable.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
