School HR Officer

About the role

Join a supportive education trust as a School HR Officer, providing essential HR support across schools in Lewisham. This temporary‑to‑permanent position offers the chance to develop your HR career while making a positive impact on staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line HR advice and guidance to staff and managers.
• Support recruitment activities: advertise vacancies, arrange interviews and liaise with candidates.
• Process employment checks and ensure safeguarding compliance.
• Maintain and update Single Central Records (SCRs) and HR systems.
• Produce documentation for starters, leavers and contractual changes.
• Assist payroll processes, including contract variations, absences and overtime.
• Take notes at formal HR meetings, conduct audits and generate reports.
• Collaborate with school leaders to keep staff records accurate and compliant.

Required profile

• A‑Level qualification or equivalent.
• Previous experience in HR administration or a busy office environment.
• Strong IT proficiency and experience with HR or management systems.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities with attention to detail.
• Professional, confidential and resilient approach to work.
• Proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent) desirable.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
